Breaking Down the Bond: Wheat Ridge & Ralston Valley

It’s easy to wonder where the $567 million bond will be spent. Let’s break it down. You can visit our What Will They Build at My School page for the complete list of Facility Fact Sheets prepared by the Jeffco Schools Facility Team. If you start with the high school for your area, you’ll find a summary of all items to be addressed at the schools within that articulation area.

Episode 3: Wheat Ridge & Ralston Valley

This week our deeper dive into 5B looks at the Wheat Ridge and Ralston Valley articulation areas.

Wheat Ridge Articulation Area

The Farmers at Wheat Ridge High School enjoy a rich history and are proud to be hosts of some amazing programs such as Wheat Ridge STEM Engineering and the Gifted and Talented Center Program. Teachers and staff are dedicated to inspiring students to fearlessly think critically and creatively and proof of their success can be seen daily on campus. However, the campus was built in 1965 and is in poor condition. WRHS will benefit greatly from the planned renovation included in 5B. With a total project estimate of $13,287,468,* a complete interior remodel is planned along with work specifically geared towards expanding and supporting WRHS’ outstanding programs. Deferred maintenance will also be addressed – replacing worn roofing and ceilings to prevent building leaks and updating heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems. As with all high schools, safety and security will be improved with upgraded exterior doors, security cameras, and security system locks.

The Bond package includes replacement facilities for 3 elementary schools – one of which is Prospect Valley in Wheat Ridge. $22 million has been allocated to build a new facility at the same location. All other schools which are in the Wheat Ridge articulation area will see improvements totaling an additional $16,881,129* - a significant investment in this valued area of Jeffco. The variety of work is demonstrated in the chart above. And for greater detail, you can visit each school’s Facility Fact Sheet:

Ralston Valley Articulation Area

Ralston Valley High School is recognized as a leader in academic success. With strong athletic and arts programs, the RV Mustangs are also proud of their safe, inclusive, spirited, and positive school culture. This part of the district has been growing for several decades and the facility was built in 2000 with expansion in mind. Jeffco plans a 3rd wing addition to RVHS to accommodate students new to the area. Arvada has experienced population growth over 10% for many years and most of this is in the RV area. Mechanical and lighting upgrades will also be made at the same time to improve operating efficiency. Safety and security improvements will be made to exterior doors, locks, and security cameras. The total project cost planned for RVHS is $9,397,456*.

The Ralston Valley articulation area elementary and middle schools will see an additional $48,203,127* of improvements. This includes a planned new elementary school in the Leyden Rock area with a budget of $28 million and additions at Oberon Middle School and Three Creeks Elementary – all of which are needed to accommodate growth in this area of the district. The variety of work at each existing school is demonstrated in the chart above. Visit each school’s Facility Fact Sheet for greater detail:
