One of the reasons we moved to Jefferson County 54 years ago was because of the quality schools. Let’s keep them that way by voting YES on this year’s mill/bond election.

    Golden Schools Foundaton endorsed 2018-09-20 12:01:43 -0600
GOLDEN, September 19, 2018– At its monthly Board meeting, the Golden Schools Foundation (GSF) voted to endorse the 2018 Jeffco Schools Mill and Bond campaign 5A & 5B, as well as Amendment 73, which is the first statewide revenue measure developed for local school districts to help communities sustain and benefit from Colorado’s economic growth.

“Colorado currently ranks 40th on per pupil spending and is ranked last in the nation on providing teachers a competitive wage. If Amendment 73 passes, Jeffco Public Schools will see an increase of approximately $1,600 more per student each year bringing Jeffco and our Golden Schools closer to the national average,” explained GSF Chair Kimberly Brock.

This statewide measure freezes the local property tax rate for families, currently the third lowest in the nation, and cuts property taxes on businesses, farmers and ranchers. It only increases the income taxes for the top 8 percent of earners and the corporate tax by a modest 1.7 percent. The new revenue goes into a dedicated state education fund that allocates resources equitably to every school district in the state.

Also, on the November 6th ballot, Jeffco Public Schools will ask voters to approve a $33 million mill levy override and a bond package of up to $567 million. Measures 5A & 5B will provide much-needed funding to upgrade safety and security, mental health supports and technology, increase competitiveness with surrounding districts to attract and retain the highest quality teachers and staff, and ensure Jeffco students are prepared for college and careers.

Specifically, Golden High School would receive a proposed $1,333,040 to update security cameras & classroom security door hardware, secure building vestibules, entries & office location, update existing technology for student learning, update interior paint, wall-coverings, and replace interior lighting with energy-efficient LEDs.

Bell Middle School, originally built in 1964, will receive a proposed $7,014,686 to expand with an addition, update security cameras & classroom security door hardware, update existing technology for student learning, parking lot improvements, sidewalk replacements, update old electrical wiring, panels & increase capacity, replace old ceilings, worn roofing and more.

Every Golden Elementary School would benefit from these measures with Shelton receiving a proposed $1,397,841 for a safer parking lot with expansion, update security cameras & classroom security door hardware, update existing technology for student learning, update old electrical wiring, panels & increase capacity and more.

All Golden Articulation Schools will benefit from the mill levy override through additional operating dollars.

“The proposed mill and bond will provide much-needed funding for all Jeffco Schools including mental health supports as a priority,” said Brock. “Looking specifically from a Golden perspective, we’re pleased to see key renovations planned for all of our Golden Articulation Schools. With the increase in students at Shelton and Welchester ES, there are several improvements needed to accommodate these communities from parking to technology. We encourage all Jeffco voters to join us in supporting these critically important measures.”

Together, a $33 million mill levy override and a bond package of up to $567 million will cost Jeffco homeowners about $3.91 a month per $100,000 in assessed value (~$1.81 for the bond and ~$2.10 for the mill levy override). For a $300,000 home that is just $11.73 a month. That is a win for kids, families, community members and businesses in Jefferson County.
